MAXWELL SMITH
The air actually smelled clean, for once; at least compared to the air from the bustling cities that crowded the boy's home region. If he could have, he would have moved to somewhere such as Hoenn, due to it's rural towns. Though he adored his home region, Johto could use a little less... communitive properties. Though he knew that perhaps the rest of the region would be larger in contrast to this small city, he would try to ignore that fact as he started his new journey. Clutching his old bag, of which anyone could plainly see where one had to sew patches in it due to ripping and tearing due to perhaps harsh weathering or terrain. The boat ride over was long and tiring, though mostly all worth it in his eyes.
Stepping down the ramp, the small town was strange in contrast to, again, his home region. Not as if he were judging it or anything; he was just not too used to it and all. He was get used to it later, but for now it would be easier just to find the lab to receive his starter. The strange feeling of not having his old Pokemon with him washed over him again, as it had earlier. Though he had promised Flame and Dusk - though mostly the Reaper Pokemon, that old doof - to try to stay in contact with them from time to time, he could see how that would mostly be difficult considering the fact that he would mostly be focused on training and defeating the gym leaders, as he once did back in Johto. With a sign and readjustment of his hat, the weary teen made his way forward.
After asking an old man the direction to the labrotory - and a quick play with the man's Aipom - he was on his way, passing children playing and some older women talking and gossiping. The teen could only guess what they were giggling about as he passed. After a bit enjoyment of the scenery, the sun rising into the sky - Max guessing that perhaps it was a little before noon - the boy finally managed his way to the very unique - and high tech - looking labrotory. He was quite impressed, he had to admit. Perhaps he should inform Elm later of him needing an upgrade on his own lab. The young Professor would not approve probably, but it was worth a shot.
The clear glass doors slid opened slowly as he stepped forward to them, having him wait a moment before entering. The air inside was warmer compared to the air standing outside. Then again, it was winter time, so many homes and work places would have their thermostats up near the seventies and eighties. The boy took a pause to examine the inside of the waiting room. Well, it seemed pretty dormant, though more up to date in the sense that it looked a little more modern; when visiting Oak's lab while taking a break from training, it seemed that his lab merely had one large room, instead of two. For a moment, Max thought that perhaps he could have to holler, seeing as how there was no one there, when noticing the desk, and a glittering bell a top it.
"Guess I press this, I guess?" he questioned in a mutter, mostly to him self, as his eyes fixed upon the glittering object as he cascaded over to it.
After a moment of thought, the teen raised his right hand and pressed the bell, making it ding twice, before stepping back and looking around once more, waiting for someone to help him out with his starter.

PROFESSOR THEOS; The Professor was tinkering with something on his desk that was small and metallic in look. What it really was the pokemon observing him weren't exactly sure but it was part of some research that he had been doing for many months intermittantly between other research projects. He sighed and ended up shoving it way back into its cubby hole and then putting away the tools in a drawer he turned around to look at the pokemon that was watching him, one of those he was to take care of for some trainer out on his journey. It was a Meditite, a very smart one at that.
With a smile Theos patted the blue and grey pokemon's head before turning back to his desk to pull out his next little project for the day. He was trying to make a catalog of all the pokemon on each route but that was taking forever because as soon as he got one place cataloged it would change and then he had to practically start all over again. He ought to just give up the project he thought as he considered the yellow legal pad in his hand. There really was no way to accurately tell a trainer what it would face and when even if he would like to be able to do that.
He threw the legal pad into the trash can where it was suddenly incinerated by a little mouse like pokemon, Cyndaquil. Professor Theos looked at the pokemon with a disapproving eye raise and was about the admonish the pokemon when two dings of the bell in the lobby sounded through the wall and towards the inner lab. He got up, roughly straightening his lab coat before grabbing a pamphlet off the desk and striding to the door that divided the lobby and the laboratory.
Opening the door he came to a stop as he turned to look at the boy that was standing to his right. A careful once over gave the Professor the impression of a trainer and so at least he'd managed to get someone who came to the right place. He held out the brouchure and spoke, "These are the pokemon we have at the moment. On the back is the supply kit that you'll receive with the pokemon you choose. Choose wisely, because I don't do exchanges if something doesn't work out." With that the Professor crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the boy to say something.

MAXWELL SMITH
As Max waited for the professor or helper to arrive, he couldn't help but tap his foot and start humming a random song. He really never liked the quietness. It was always quiet before the storm, as his mother told him when storm clouds rolled towards their quaint town in the distant. He could sometimes remember that to be true, though he could never know what it meant until he was a traveler. It always seemed that, if he ever happened to a route where evil doers were lurking, or trying to thwart Team Rocket's plans in their own base. The air around was always still, even the most brave of wild Pokemon hiding in fear due to fright of being captured or killed. The thought dreaded many, and always happened to most.
The opening of a door startled the teen to silence and dash his view to where it had came from. A man in a white lab coat, looking a bit older than perhaps Elm. The professor, he took it? When the man approached him and began to speak, he gesutered to him a pamphlet in which he was to look at to choose his starter Pokemon, the man saying on the back was a list of items he could receive as well. The boy muttered a thanks as he gently took the piece of paper gently from the man's hands, the man quick to cross his arms in waiting. Thinking the man was in some sort of hurry due to his stance, Max was quick to start looking. In all truth, there weren't many "good" Pokemon on the list; or rather, Pokemon that the teen liked. After narrowing them down to only a few, Max was quick to check off the disabilities of each of them, finally ableing him to choose one.
"I would like a Spoink, please," the teen spoke with a nod, quick to gesture back the pamphlet he was handed.

PROFESSOR THEOS; The Professor nodded to the murmured thanks and then stood there rather patiently for all that his body language might say. It was just a habit of his to cross his arms rather then being lose and letting them hang at his sides. But that was no problem as the boy just kept looking over the pokemon as if he wasn't sure what to pick. There definitely was a bit of a funky variety to these pokemon, different then the usual lab with the same old boring pokemon day in and day out. It had been his idea to offer many different things to make this interesting for the trainers.
They would have to learn to cope with pokemon they might not have chosen and that alone was enough for the professor to enjoy his job, enough to make him feel like he was in a good position to be doing what he was doing. he snapped back to reality as the boy moved to hand him the pamphlet. Taking it from the boy the Professor listened to his choice and then smiled. "A good choice for a starter in my opinion." With that he went back through the door into the lab.
He laid the pamphlet on his desk and then continued on past to the back of the lab where he opened the storage room door and flicked on the light switch. With a few cursory glances of the pokeballs he found the ones that held Spoink's and then exiting the room as he turned off the light he grabbed a small box of supplies from the shelf and then walking to the door he pushed it open with the hand that held the pokeball and then with good aim he tossed it at the boy to catch. "There's your Spoink and here's your supplies." He handed the box to the boy and kept speaking, "Take good care of the Spoink and good luck on your journey." Then the Professor smiled before going back into his lab as the trainer left.
